What is the difference between white gold and platinum?
Platinum possesses several unique characteristics, such as its durability, strength, and color and shine that make it highly sought after for jewelry that will stand the test of time. It is a pure white metal, so it will always maintain a white color. Waldo Jewelers has invested in special equipment to manufacture and repair platinum jewelry. Very few jewelers are able to provide the same level of service in platinum that we can offer.
White gold is an alternative to platinum. It is an alloy that combines pure gold with white metals such as silver, palladium, nickel, or zinc. The resulting mixture achieves a white or silver color. Over time the alloy used breaks down causing the ring to look more golden. Rhodium plating every 2 to 3 years is recommended to maintain the white color. White gold is less dense than platinum, and therefore is more likely to show signs of wear over time, but is typically lower in cost.
What is the difference between 14 karat gold and 18 karat gold?
Everyone is different, so the best type of gold for you should be based on a breakdown of various factors. When deciding on gold for your engagement ring, factors such as your career, activity level, aesthetic taste, budget, and skin sensitivity all play a role in your decision
The main difference between 14 karat gold and 18 karat gold is the gold content. 18 karat gold is made of 75% gold and 25% alloyed metals whereas 14k gold is made of 58% gold. These alloyed metals can include silver, copper, nickel, and palladium.
As 14k gold contains a higher percentage of other metals, it is more durable in comparison to 18k gold.
18k has more gold content compared to 14k and therefore will have more of a rich golden hue and is more hypoallergenic. Also it will be heavier in weight than 14 karat.
If you’re someone with an active lifestyle and who wants a low-maintenance piece, then 14k gold is a good option for you. However, if purity and luster are high on your priority list, then 18 k gold is more appropriate.
What is the difference between earth mined diamonds and lab grown diamonds?
The only difference between an earth mined (natural) diamond, and a lab grown diamond is their origin. They are chemically and optically the same. They are also graded in the same way- For cut, color, and clarity.
Waldo Jewelers has developed a relationship with an American manufacturer and cutter of lab diamonds, and therefore is able to offer substantial value and selection of lab grown diamonds in house.
Should you prefer an earth mined diamond or other gemstone our concierge service includes sourcing of rare and unique jewels upon request.
How long does the custom process take?

What if I do not know the finger size?
Typically our design engineer can determine an approximate finger size with a few questions if you do not know the recipient’s finger size and want to maintain the surprise.
